Moukoko's foot injury may sideline youngster for the rest of the year

Germany's Bild-Zeitung reports that the injury Youssoufa Moukoko incurred on Germany U21 duty may keep him out for the duration of the 2020/21 Bundesliga season.

Germany U21 trainer Stefan Kuntz had rosier, and mathematically precise, predictions to make concerning Wunderkind Youssoufa Moukoko last week. It now surfaces that he conveyed more grave forecasts Germany's main sporting tabloid in private.


"The injury is worse than previously thought," Kuntz is said to have told the newspaper, "We have to wait for the healing process."

The über-talent 16-year-old suffered a foot injury in the lead up to the squad's 3-0 defeat of Hungary in the opening group stage match of the UEFA U-21 European Championship. While the injury was initially reported to be nothing more than a contusion, it did keep Moukoko out of the remaining two fixtures in the tournament's preliminary round.

BVB trainer Edin Terzic told reporters that the "period of inactivity can only be determined after further [medical] examinations" at a Thursday presser.
