Fink, Baumgart and Funkel touted for Köln job

Thorsten Fink, Steffen Baumgart and Friedhelm Funkel are among the reported candidates to replace Markus Gisdol as FC Köln coach if he loses his job.
Markus Gisdol's job as FC Köln coach is said to be hanging by a thread as 'The Billy Goats' prepare for Sunday's crunch Bundesliga clash with relegation rivals FC Köln.

According to reports, Thorsten Fink, Steffen Baumgart and Friedhelm Funkel have been lined up as possible replacements for the under-fire 51-year-old.

Former HSV coach Fink refused to confirm or affirm anything when asked about the speculation by the Express.

"I can't say whether there has been contact with [FC Köln sporting managing director] Horst Heldt. Out of respect for my coaching colleague Markus Gisdol, I don't want to comment on the rumors," said Fink.

Baumgart recently ignited speculation that he could take over the job by announcing his departure from 2. Bundesliga outfit SC Paderborn.

Funkel, on the other hand, has previously distanced himself from the links to Köln, describing reports that he had been in contact with Köln as 'bollocks'.
