Augsburg confirm Khedira departure after the season

As of of yet, there is no independent corroboration of a move to 1. FC Union Berlin.

Rani Khedira and FC Augsburg nevertheless publicly confirmed that they would part ways after the season on Tuesday.

After four years playing for the Fuggerstädter, Rani Khedira will depart Bavaria at the conclusion of the current campaign. Both club and player released statements on Tuesday afternoon.


"Rani has developed well over the past four years with us, played many matches, and given everything to the FCA," sporting director Stefan Reuter said in his release, "However, in joint discussions over the past few months, we both decided that the time has come to travel a different path."

The 27-year-old Khedira, who played for RB Leipzig and VfB Stuttgart prior to his stint in Bavaria's Swabian fringes, was similarly graceful in his remarks.

"I was able to develop into a real Bundesliga player here," he noted, "That's why I will always have fond memories of these past four years. I've nevertheless determined that now is the time for me to began a new chapter in my sporting career."

The rumor in German footballing circles remains that Khedira is on the verge of heading to Köpenick in the country's capital city on a free. If true, it's possible that the midfielder may face older brother Sami in the next edition of the Berliner derby.
