Hitzfeld 'can't understand' Flick's decision to quit Bayern for Germany job

Former Bayern München coach Ottmar Hitzfeld can't see why Hansi Flick wanted to leave the German champions to take over as Germany coach.
Ottmar Hitzfeld admits he has been left puzzled by Hansi Flick's decision to leave Bayern München to succeed Joachim Löw as Germany coach after the Euros.

"To be honest, I can't really understand it," said the former Bayern coach in an interview with Swiss newspaper Blick.

"For me, it's an inconceivable decision to go to the DFB when you're a successful coach at Bayern. He could have become an icon at Bayern for years."

Flick joined Bayern as an assistant for Niko Kovac in the summer of 2019 and took over as head coach on an interim basis in November that same year.

He guided Bayern to a total of seven trophies, including two Bundesliga titles and the Champions League.
