Schalke 04 and Sebastian Rudy part ways

Sebastian Rudy is leaving Schalke 04 on a free transfer.
Schalke 04 have released Sebastian Rudy from his contract with immediate effect.

The midfielder's contract, which was due to expire next year, has been terminated by mutual consent, the Gelsenkirchen club announced on Wednesday.

"After the eventful Monday, we spoke again at length and are now very happy that we were able to agree on a solution for both parties that significantly eases the club financially," said Schalke sporting director Rouven Schröder.

"Meanwhile, Sebastian now has the chance of a new start at another club. We wish him all the best for his personal and sporting future," he added.

Rudy, 31, made a total of 30 appearances for Schalke 04, who paid €16 million to sign him from Bayern München in 2018. He spent last season on loan at Hoffenheim.
