Report: Premier League clubs looking at Germany defender

German publication BILD has claimed that Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing 27-year-old World Cup winning defender Matthias Ginter.

Ginter, who has 1 year remaining on his current Borussia Mönchengladbach contract, looks set to be on his way out of BORUSSIA-Park with BILD suggesting Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl being unwilling to offer the defender a new deal.

Eberl admitted earlier this week that Mönchengladbach would be willing to cash in on and offload players who are in their final year, and Ginter is one of those players with Die Fohlen reportedly setting a price tag of €25m on the World Cup winner's head.

The report from BILD suggests that Liverpool and Tottenham are the main teams that are interested in Ginter, but they suggest that the London-based side are in the driver's seat as they have enquired about the availability of the German center-back.

Germany legend and Sky Germany pundit Lothar Matthäus has spoken very highly of Ginter, especially after his performance against France in Germany's EURO 2020 opener. Speaking to Sky Germany, Matthäus said: “Ginter has become a leader at the back, in a similar way to Ramos at Real. He reminds me of Ramos. He’s full of confidence nowadays and has become a big personality. In the past, he wasn’t as vocal and tended to follow the pack. Now he’s taking on responsibility and making important decisions – defensively and in attack. His current contract is up in 2022, but Borussia need to sit down with him and tie him down for longer. Ginter has made huge strides of late, and is only going to get better.”
