Official: Hertha bring "total package" Kevin-Prince Boateng home on a free
Hertha BSC officially confirmed a one-year-contract for native son Kevin-Prince Boateng on Wednesday evening.
As reported earlier, former German and Ghanian international Kevin-Prince Boateng had a medical scheduled in the capital city on Wednesday afternoon. The Bundesrepublik's "alte dame" officially confirmed a one-year contract for the 34-year-old later in the evening. For the second time in five years, German footballing executive Fredi Bobic brings the veteran in on a free. This time, Boateng is headed back to his hometown club.
"Kevin-Prince Boateng knows Hertha BSC, the Bundesliga, and Berlin," Bobic said in a statement, "He doesn't need a long acclimatization period. With his leadership qualities in the locker room and off the pitch, he'll be an enormous asset to our team. On the pitch, he has proven himself at the highest level over many years. We've got the total package with this transfer."
"Hertha is just not any club for me," Boateng said in his own statement, "I'm here to give something back. I owe my entire career to this club. I've never forgotten that. Hertha has always been in my heart."
In announcing the transfer, German footballing magazine Kicker confirms that Hertha were indeed also interested in Kevin-Prince's famous half-brother Jerome. Kicker's journalists nevertheless report that the former Bayern star is now likely headed abroad for the 2021/22 campaign.
