Germany knocked out of the Euros by England

Germany's Euro 2020 campaign came to an end as 'Die Mannschaft' fell to a 2-0 defeat against England in the round of 16.
Germany are out of Euro 2020 after a 2-0 defeat to England at Wembley in Joachim Löw's last game in charge.

In a game of few clear-cut chances, Timo Werner could have opened the scoring for Germany just after the half-hour mark, but was unable to beat Jordan Pickford after latching on to a pass from Kai Havertz.

Just before half time, England threatened at the other end as the ball fell to Harry Kane in the area, but Mats Hummels made a last-ditch tackle to deal with the threat.

A few minutes into the second half, Pickford was called upon again to make another save, turning a powerful half-volley from Kai Havertz over the bar.

But it was England who took the lead through Raheem Sterling as the Manchester City winger finished off a brilliant team move by tapping in Luke Shaw's low cross in the 75th minute.

Thomas Müller then missed a glorious opportunity to equalise, sending his shot just wide of the post in a one-on-one situation with Pickford.

Instead, England went up the other end to kill the game off as Harry Kane headed in Jack Grealish's cross in the 86th minute to end Germany's hopes of going through.
