Schalke want to offload five more players

Amine Harit, Matija Nastasic and Omar Mascarell are some of the players that are still expected to depart Schalke 04 this summer.
Having already said goodbye to 18 players after getting relegated to the 2. Bundesliga, Schalke 04 are still looking to cut down their wage bill.

Speaking to Kicker, Schalke sporting director Rouven Schröder admits the club are trying to get rid of at least five players, including Amine Harit and Matija Nastastic.

"From a sporting point of view and when it comes to their personal development, playing in the 2. Bundesliga would be a step backwards for both of them. In addition, both players are at a salary level that is only suitable for the top flight."

With regard to Omar Mascarell, the situation is "the same as with Matija and Amine," added Schröder, who expects Ozan Kabak to depart the club as well.

"We can assume, which is also his very own aspiration and goal, that he will take on greater challenges," he said.

Lastly, Schröder hinted that one of Schalke could offload one of their three goalkeepers – Ralf Fährmann, Michael Langer and Markus Schubert.

"They are all playing at a high level. As with all other positions, the financial aspect plays a very decisive role here in addition to the sporting one," said Schröder.

Therefore, "there can still be movement" in the goalkeeping department, he concluded.
