Holger Badstuber atwitter to announce move abroad

Former German national team starter Holger Badstuber has apparently not had his fill of professional football just yet.

Despite playing all of last season with the VfB Stuttgart reserves, the 32-year-old defender still seeks to play another top flight club campaign.

Badstuber announced on social media that, for the first time in his career, he would move abroad.
Former German national team mainstay Holger Badtstuber made his contributions in helping VfB Stuttgart attain promotion back to the German Bundesliga during the 2019/20 campaign. The veteran center halve nevertheless never figured into head-coach Pellegrino Matarazzo's plans for the team's first season back in the Germany's top footballing flight.

In news that surprised many German football watchers, Badstuber was unceremoniously demoted to Stuttgart's reserve team last autumn. The former Bayern star, who Bundestrainer Joachim Löw once relied upon as a regular starter in the national team, spent last year playing in the Regionalliga Südwest.

In seeking a more becoming end to his long career, Badstuber is said to have turned third tier side MSV Duisburg down already this summer. Germany's Sport Bild now asserts that the 32-year-old is headed to FC Luzern in the Swiss Alpo Super League.

"I have accepted a new challenge abroad," Badstuber wrote on twitter Sunday evening without naming his new club, "This marks the end of an emotional chapter for me. Thank you, Bundesliga. Thank you fans. It was an honor for me."

Badstuber made a total of 166 Bundesliga appearances for Bayern, Schalke, and Stuttgart. If the information reported by Sport Bild is correct, Badstuber will unite with former VfB teammate Christian Gentner, who also joined the Swiss club this summer on a free transfer.
