Report: Leverkusen express interest in Liverpool defender

Liverpool's Nathaniel Phillips is reportedly subject of interest from Bayer Leverkusen.
Bayer Leverkusen have expressed interest in Liverpool centre-back Nathaniel Phillips, according to Sky.

Per the report, 'Die Werkself' have contacted the player's agent to inquire about a possible transfer.

On Wednesday, it was reported that Leverkusen have agreed a deal to sign 20-year-old centre-back Odilon Kossounou from Club Brugge.

But despite his impending arrival, they still look rather shorthanded at the back due to the retirement of the Bender brothers, a number of departures and Edmond Tapsoba's long-term injury.

Phillips is no stranger to German football, having spent most of the 2019/20 season at then 2. Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart.

Leverkusen could face competition for the 24-year-old's signature, though, with Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle and West Ham also said to be interested in the defender.

Phillips, whose contract runs through 2023, featured 20 times for Liverpool last season.
