Florian Wirtz has set big goals for himself ahead of the 2021/22 season.
Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid Florian Wirtz has talked about his ambitions for the new season.
Despite being just 18 years old, the attacking midfielder wants to play a leading role in Leverkusen's push for a Champions League spot.
"I want to lead our team to a Champions League place with my performances," Wirtz said in an interview with Sky.
Wirtz received his first call-up for Germany's senior side in March, but didn't get to make his debut under Joachim Löw. Now, he is keen to impress new 'Die Mannschaft' coach Hansi Flick.
"If I perform well, I might be called up for the national team, which would make me very happy," said the youngster.
"Coaches, the national team coach included, tend to focus on certain things. In midfield, I can't afford to make too many mistakes. That's a goal I've set for myself for the new season. If I can implement that, I'll definitely increase my chances."
Wirtz has scored nine goals and made eight assists in 47 games for Leverkusen so far.
