Report: Barcelona show interest in Bayern defender

Barcelona have reportedly set their sights on Bayern Munich and France defender Lucas Hernandez.
The report comes from the Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, who say Barcelona are interested in signing Lucas Hernandez in the summer transfer window. However, the 25-year-old French defender is unlikely to be poached away from the Bundesliga champions, owing to his valuation.

Bayern purchased the 25-year-old Frenchman from Atletico Madrid for €80 million in the summer of 2019 and to date, Hernandez has made 62 appearances for the reigning Bundesliga champions, chipping in with a goal and five assists.

In the season gone by, he seemed to have grown in stature at Bayern Munich, which is perhaps why a club like Barcelona might have set their sights on him. However, the issue that is stopping this transfer from potentially taking place is the money.

While no fee has been reported by Mundo Deportivo, the report asserts that Barcelona cannot afford to sign Hernandez this summer. As a result of this, Barcelona have put Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso and Borussia Mönchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter on their list as cheaper alternatives for the World Cup winner.
