Long considered expendable, left-back "Wendell" Nascimento Borges will have difficulty competing for places among some of the new arrivals in Geraldo Seone's Werkself. Leverkusen's new trainer hasn't used the 18-year-old Brazilian in the last two test matches.

The Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger, which does have ground reporters covering neighboring Leverkusen, has been reporting on tenuous links with Sporting Lisbon for days. A Portuguese newspaper now confirms the rumors, noting that a transfer should be finalized once Lisbon finalizes some outgoing transfers.

The German newspaper also claims that Wendell has already bid his Leverkusen teammates an emotional farewell at a team assembly. Wendell has made a cumulative total of 249 competitive appearances for Germany's red company team since joining Bayer in 2014. Now in the final year of his contract, it makes sense that the club seeks to offload him.
