Schalke 04 plans to extend contract with Ralf Fährmann in order to lower salary costs

The 32-year-old goalkeeper is earning a whopping 2.6 million euros per year until 2023 - Schalke feel this is too high for a single player in the 2. Bundesliga.
According to Sport Bild, 'Die Königsblauen' wants to adjust Fährmann's basic salary to the salary structure, which is starting to take place after the Gelsenkirchen's clubs relegation to the second tier.

However, Bild reports the veteran's salary would not be reduced until the 2022/23 season, provided the Schalke number one then has to sit on the bench more often.

Fährmann is currently out with a corona infection, and Michael Langer is standing in for him between the posts.
