Fährmann signs new Schalke deal

Ralf Fährmann has signed a new Schalke 04 contract. The 32-year-old goalkeeper has agreed to take a pay cut after the club dropped out of the Bundesliga last season.
Schalke 04 goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann has extended his contract by a further two years until 2025.

Schalke confirmed the contract extension today, stating that the 32-year-old has 'agreed to a restructuring of his wages' after the club's relegation to the 2. Bundesliga.

"Discussions of this kind are usually anything but easy, but these ones were very constructive from the start," commented Schalke sporting director Rouven Schröder.

"Ralf is aware of the club's situation, and was ready to help carry us in a new direction in the 2. Bundesliga. We are very thankful to him for this."

Fährmann, a former Schalke youth prospect, said:

"Everyone knows how much Schalke means to me. The discussions with Peter Knäbel and Rouven Schröder were very good and I'm pleased to be able to play my part. Above all, however, I want to contribute on the pitch."
