Hertha and Augsburg complete swap deal

Arne Maier and Marco Richter have officially swapped clubs.
Hertha BSC and FC Augsburg have sealed a deal that will see Arne Maier and Marco Richter swap clubs.

Richter has left Augsburg to join Hertha on a long-term contract while Maier has moved in the opposite direction on loan with an option to buy.

"Energy, variability, a nose for goal and a strong mentality are all things that Marco brings to the table. He has proven this already over several years in the Bundesliga, despite being just 23 years old. We’re very pleased that he has chosen to move to Berlin," said Hertha managing director for sport Fredi Bobic.

"We have a lot of options in central midfield, which is why we granted Arne’s wish for a new challenge," added Bobic.

Augsburg sporting director Stefan Reuter commented:

"Arne Maier is a young player that has featured for Germany at youth level and captained the U21s to victory at this summer's U21 EUROs. We are pleased that he's decided to join FCA, because we presented him with our vision of where we see him fitting in here, which he was able to fully identify with.

"Over the last years, Marco Richter has always considered the idea of leaving his local club. Given that we were able to come to a mutually satisfying agreement with Hertha in a short span of time, we agreed to the let him leave," said Reuter.
