Bayern see off Dortmund in Super Cup

Bayern München edged past familiar foes Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup.
Bayern München emerged victorious against Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup at Signal Iduna Park on Tuesday evening, winning 3-1 in a dramatic affair.

16-year-old Youssoufa Moukoko started up front for Borussia Dortmund alongside Erling Haaland, coming into the side to replace Thorgan Hazard, who picked up an injury in Saturday's 5-2 thrashing of Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann made one change to the side that drew 1-1 with Gladbach last Friday, with Kingsley Coman coming into the line-up at the expense of Leroy Sané.

The Bavarians could have broken the deadlock 16 minutes into the game after Serge Passlack was caught out by Serge Gnabry, who found Kingsley Coman inside the box, but the Frenchman couldn't keep his shot on target.

Four minutes later, Dortmund captain Marco Reus was denied by an excellent save from Manuel Neuer in a one-on-one situation at the other end of the pitch.

The first goal came in the 42nd minute when Robert Lewandowski arrived late in the box to power a header past Gregor Kobel after a cross from Serge Gnabry.

Julian Nagelsmann's troops continued where they left off after the break, increasing their lead through Thomas Müller, who made it 2-0 after a flick on from Robert Lewandowski.

Dortmund, however, showed they were still in the game and hit back in the 64th minute as Marco Reus beautifully curled the ball past Neuer.

Unfortunately for 'Die Schwarzgelben', a crucial mistake from Manuel Akanji proved costly around 10 minutes later. The Swiss international lost possession to Corentin Tolisso, and the ball ended up at the feet of Robert Lewandowski, who slotted past Gregor Kobel to seal the win for Bayern with his second goal of the evening.
