Fantasy Bundesliga: Must-haves and differentials for Matchday 2
Ahead of Matchday 2, we have highlighted a must-have player (M) and a differential pick (D) from each game that you should consider for your Fantasy Bundesliga team.
RB Leipzig v. VfB Stuttgart:
M: Andre Silva, Forward (RBL, 15M, 17%) - It was a pretty miserable opening match for Leipzig as they were upset by Mainz 1-0. Silva only managed one shot in the game but a quick turnaround of fortunes should not be far off. Leipzig have a dominant squad and last week’s match will not be indicative of the performances to come from a title contending team.
D: Roberto Massimo, Midfielder (VFB, 4.3M, 1%) - From the right side, Massimo provided an electric spark with four shots and an assist in their 5-1 demolition of Fürth. A double digit Fantasy score in your first start is also a great sign of positive things to come from the 20-year-old.
Eintracht Frankfurt v. FC Augsburg:
M: Daichi Kamada, Midfielder (SGE, 11M, 3%) - Along the same lines as Leipzig, the first machday was an utter embarrassment for Frankfurt, succumbing five goals to Dortmund. Kamada was one of the few bright spots despite only playing the first half. He is still key to the Frankfurt attack and should find redemption this weekend against another squad who gave up four goals in their first match.
D: Iago, Defender (FCA, 6.9M, 0%) - A horrible match for Augsburg against Hoffenheim saw four goals hit the back of their net. If they can put the opening jitters behind them, Iago does provide an attacking outlet down the left flank. Eintracht proved that their defense was not at their peak either so a very open match is on the cards.
Sport-Club Freiburg v. Borussia Dortmund:
M: Marco Reus, Forward (BVB, 13.4M, 7%) - Reus has looked fantastic to start the season, seemingly healthy and producing in all areas of the game. A goal and an assist to start the season and the lone goal in their loss to Bayern in the Supercup should make Dortmund supporters feel good about the upcoming season. As long as Reus stays healthy, his connection with Haaland will bring endless Fantasy points.
D: Yannick Keitel, Midfielder (SCF, 4.2M, 0%) - A solid start from the 21-year-old midfielder saw him take five shots in the nil-nil draw against Bielefeld, scoring six Fantasy points alone on Goal Attempts. A yellow card hampered the experience a bit but a fast paced match with Dortmund could see something come to fruition.
SpVgg Greuther Fürth v. DSC Arminia Bielefeld:
M: Stefan Ortega, Keeper (DSC, 8.3M, 11%) - A standout performer from last season, Ortega has continued his stellar performances with five saves and a clean sheet in Bielefeld’s nil-nil draw with Freiburg on the opening matchday. A superb shot-stopper, Ortega will have endless chances to rack up save points as Bielefeld’s backline will struggle for most of the season.
D: Fabian Klos, Forward (DSC, 7.2M, 1%) - Klos played a confident match last week, scoring Fantasy points in an all-around manner. He registered Fantasy points taking shots, setting up shots and stopping shots. He has another great opportunity this weekend with one of the few matches you can call Bielefeld the favorites.
Hertha BSC v. VfL Wolfsburg:
M: Jerome Roussillon, Defender (WOB, 7.3M, 11%) - Roussillon, along with all Wolfsburg defenders, put in a strong performance at the weekend against Bochum. Roussillon also has an added bonus with his attacking prowess. He was able to manage eight crosses as well as a shot on goal in the match. He is very reasonably priced at only 7.3M.
D: Maximilian Philipp, Forward (WOB, 8.2M, 1%) - Wolfsburg are a heavily owned squad in the Fantasy game but Philipp is the differential of the pack, owned by the least amount of managers. He played well last weekend, racking up eight Fantasy points in a game that should have seen Wolfsburg score more. Philipp also took the majority of the set pieces and corners which is always an added perk.
VfL Bochum 1848 v. 1. FSV Mainz 05:
M: Moussa Niakhate, Defender (M05, 7.3M, 4%) - The star of the biggest upset of the weekend, Niakhate showed his skills on both ends of the pitch, scoring the winner and keeping the clean sheet against Leipzig. If Mainz can put in a performance similar to last weekend, there is a good chance of a repeat of what happened.
D: Aaron Martin, Defender (M05, 3.2M, 1%) - An impressive game from the wingback saw him score double digit Fantasy points and help Mainz start the season on a high. Martin will always be involved with the attack and will split duties on corner kicks as well.
Bayer 04 Leverkusen v. Borussia Mönchengladbach:
M: Joe Scally, Defender (BMG, 2.1M, 7%) - If the young American can continue to put in strong shifts on the backline like he has for a measly price of 2.1M, he may turn out to be the best budget pick of the season. It still is very early to make such an assumption, however, all signs are promising and he may end up being a must have on every Fantasy lineup.
D: Moussa Diaby, Forward (B04, 12.3M, 1%) - The lone goal scorer in their last match, Diaby will prove once again how much of a threat on the wing he is for Leverkusen. With three shot attempts, four crosses and the goal for 12 Fantasy points, you can plan on seeing a lot of that this year.
TSG Hoffenheim v. 1. FC Union Berlin:
M: Sebastian Rudy, Midfielder (TSG, 7.3M, 3%) - The midfield general looked at the top of his game last weekend, controlling most of the match for Hoffenheim. Scoring once on three shot attempts is also encouraging of his attacking mindset coming into the season.
D: Georginio Rutter, Forward (TSG, 7M, 0%) - After the performance off the bench last weekend with a goal and an assist, it will be hard to imagine Rutter on the sidelines against an Union side that played a midweek Europa Conference match in Finland. An early season away trip could spell some fitness issues in Berlin that could lead to another goalfest for Hoffenheim.
FC Bayern München v. 1. FC Köln:
M: Alphonso Davies, Defender (FCB, 13.3M, 29%) - While not the best performance from Bayern or their defense in general, Davies still shined and was able to score double digit Fantasy points. With his speed and ability to win open field tackles and link up with whichever winger Bayen has on the left, not many will have the success that Davies can.
D: Anthony Modeste, Forward (KOE, 6.3M, 1%) - Modeste is back after a disappointing spell at St. Etienne and quickly came out of the starting gates like it was 2016 all over again. We’ve seen the continued struggles in the back for Bayern and while the Billy Goats are unlikely to win, Modeste can definitely make it difficult for them and their new defense.
