Official: Köln shore up defensive ranks with Kilian loan

An injury to defender Timo Hübers over the weekend evidently gave Germany's Geißböcke the needed impetus to get the Luca Kilian deal over the line.

The Domstädter of 1. FC Köln officially welcomed their new central defender early on Tuesday evening.
Reports from earlier now officially confirmed, Luca Kilian will spend the duration of the season in Germany's cathedral city. The former SC Paderborn defender will be reunited with head-coach Steffen Baumgart after making just 8 appearances since switching to Mainz in the summer of 2020.

"Luca is a very talented defender; a fast and strong footballer," Baumgart noted in a statement released by the club, "We worked together successfully at Paderborn. I'm very happy to have him here were we can further his development."

"I've always like the football that the coach [Baumgart] likes to play," the Germany U21`international said in his own statement, "I'm very much looking forward to my new assignment and wish to help the team be successful."

It is not yet known at this juncture if the season-long loan includes a purchase clause.
