One of the major talking points of the downfall of Peter Bosz's in form Leverkusen side last season was the injury to first choice goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky. Niklas Lomb's stint in goal for Die Werkself was shaky, with two vital errors in the UEL game versus Young Boys and the league game versus Augsburg forcing Bosz to deploy Lennart Grill in goal instead. Grill was a secure pair of hands till the return of Hradecky and was poised to start this season as the number 2 for Bayer.

However, after the debacle last season, Leverkusen instead opted for the safe option and signed Andrey Lunev, formerly of Zenit, as a recognized deputy to the Finnish international Hradecky. Grill was hence relegated to the stands, and at his age game time will be vital for his development, which has slowed down a bit ever since his move from 1. FC Kaiserslautern to the BayArena in June 2020.

Brann will certainly be a worthy solution to this problem. The first division club sit at the bottom of the table, three points away from the relegation playoff place. There are still 13 games to go before the season ends with the calendar year in December, and Grill can certainly gain a lot of experience with this short term move.
