Initial reports concerning a potential transfer of 25-year-old attacking midfielder Marcus Ingvartsen surfaced late Monday afternoon. Contrary to some of the initial chatter, the deal sending the Denmark U21 international (once capped at senior level) to FSV Mainz 05 is actually a loan with a purchase option.

Ingvartsen will work under countryman Bo Svensson in the Pfalz. Mainz's trainer gave some insight into how he planned to use his new acquisition tactically in a statement published on the club's website.

"Marcus has consistently proven his quality in the Bundesliga in recent years, but at a different position than we have in mind for him," Svensson noted, "We will use him as a striker in Mainz. With Marcus, we get a player entering his prime. He has a lot of passion for our project, brings a lot of footballing quality, and is also a great guy."

"I had really great discussions with Mainz," the player noted in his own statement, "the position in which Mainz wants to use me suits me. I'm a trained striker, and that's the role I feel most comfortable in."

Urs Fischer mostly used Ingvartsen as a buttressing eight in his 3-3-2-2 (or 3-5-2 double stack) set-up. Sometimes the Dane was used on the flanks. He did tally eight times in two seasons in Köpenick. A product of the FC Nordsjælland academy, Ingvartsen did score seventeen goals in his Denmark U21 career.
