Official: Fürth introduce Nick Viergever as late deadline day signing

Some 18 hours after the transfer window closed, SpVgg Greuther Fürth presented their third "deadline day" signing late Tuesday.
SpVgg Greuther Fürth personnel boss Rachid Azzouzi had some catching up to do after an exceptionally busy final day on the transfer market. The newly promoted Kleeblätter completed two deals in the final hours, bringing in Sebastian Griesbeck to shore up their defensive ranks on an outright purchase and securing the services of Swiss striker Cedric Itten on loan.

The third new face set to don the green and white stripes at the Ronhofer Weg is veteran Dutch defender Nick Viergever of PSV Eindhoven. The 32-year-old brings with him the experience of over a decade of experience in the Erdevisie for Eindhoven, Sparta Rotterdam, AZ Alkmaar, and Ajax.

"After over ten years of the Erdevisie, I was looking for a change," the newcomer said on the occasion of his introduction, "The Bundesliga is a great challenge for both me personally at the SpVgg. I'm very happy to be joining Fürth soon and very much want to use my experience to help out my new teammates. That's the clear objective that the people here in charge having pointed out to me and I'm looking forward to it."

"Nick has a lot of experience in this business," a delighted Azzouzi remarked, "He's played regularly at this level and internationally for ten years. We're convinced that he can strengthen our defensive unit. He should contribute his experience every day in every training session."

Head-coach Stefan Leitl also expressed confidence that the new arrival could be plugged into his defensive unit, which has conceded an alarming nine goals through the first three rounds, immediately.

The primary reason Viergever's transfer was confirmed late concerned the fact that the Dutchman's wife gave birth last night. The club announced that the veteran defender would join the team after taking a few days off on Sunday.
