Mainz chief Christian Heidel: I never doubted Svensson stay

Mainz chief Christian Heidel claims he never doubted that Bo Svensson would stay on as coach this summer.
Mainz 05 director of sport Christian Heidel says he had no fear that head coach Bo Svensson would leave the club in the summer.

Svensson took the reins in January, at which point Mainz were 17th in the table, and guided the club to safety after picking up an impressive 32 points in the second half of the season.

But although the Danish coach caught the eye with his impressive results, Heidel never feared that he would move on to a bigger club after just six months in charge.

"I didn't think about Bo leaving for a single second. Whether he has an exit clause or not is irrelevant," Heidel told Sport1.

"I have known Bo for a very long time and know that the path would not have ended after half a year, regardless of the sporting development."
