Speaking ahead of Bayern München's group stage opener in Barcelona on Tuesday, Müller told Kicker:
"What could be better than being in Barcelona for the kick-off of a Champions League game?"
"I have to be honest: I don't know what to expect from Barcelona at all at the moment. Now without Messi, it will certainly be a different team.
"I don't know if they are missing him. Because it's possible that when Messi is not there, a player with a higher defensive work rate might play in his place. So I don't know what to expect there. In any case, it's a great stadium at a great club.
"But for the overall experience, it's a shame, of course. It gives you a kick when you play against a team with Lionel Messi because we all know what he has achieved and is achieving."
In addition to Barcelona, Bayern have been drawn against Benfica and Dynamo Kiev.
