DFB confirms two-match cup suspension for Theate

Eintracht Frankfurt defender Arthur Theate's red card in last night's Pokal victory will cost the Belgian international two domestic cup fixtures.

After seeing an SGE appeal for a yellow-red incurred in the league last weekend rejected, the 24-year-old remains ineligible for this weekend's home fixture against VfL Bochum.

Already the subject of a controversial red card in the Bundesliga last weekend, Eintracht Frankfurt defender Arthur Theate found himself ejected from proceedings in back-to-back matches when he drew a straight red card in last night's Pokal victory. This time, Eintracht obviously won't be appealing the decision. The Belgian international denied a clear and obvious goal-scoring opportunity with a handball at the quarter-of-an-hour mark.

This case of what the German FA has deemed "unsportsmanlike conduct" means Theate may not feature in Frankfurt's next two domestic cup fixtures. The DFB officially handed down Theate's two-match-ban on Thursday. The suspension means that the 24-year-old will miss the SGE's Round-of-16 encounter and (should Dino Toppmöller's team advance) the quarterfinals this year. If Frankfurt are eliminated next round, Theate will miss next year's opener.
