Kimmich praises "outstanding" Leweling after win over Netherlands
Jamie Leweling stole the show on his Germany debut, scoring the winner in Monday's UEFA Nations League 1-0 win over the Netherlands at the Allianz Arena.
After the match, Germany captain Joshua Kimmich singled out the 23-year-old for special praise.
"We're very happy, we're very proud of the performance today. Jamie has to be singled out today, not just because of his goal, he put in an outstanding performance," Kimmich told German television after the game.
As he pointed out, the crowd's reaction also showed how well Leweling played.
“It's not often you get a standing ovation at the Allianz Arena on your debut," Kimmich said.
Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann also lavished praise on Leweling.
“I know he has a lot of energy. But I didn't expect him to play that well. He played a very good game,” he said.
