On the evening before Halloween, Omar Marmoush proved to be a real nightmare for Borussia Mönchengladbach as he came on to score Eintracht Frankfurt's 2-1 winner in Wednesday's DFB-Pokal second-round clash between the two teams.

After finding the back of the net, the 25-year-old donned a Halloween mask to celebrate - and apparently it wasn't his own idea.

"I don't really watch horror films," Marmoush told Sky Germany in a post-match interview.

He revealed that he was given the mask by second-choice goalkeeper Kaua Santos, who told him to put it on after scoring.

"I think that worked very well," Marmoush said.

Eintracht coach Dino Toppmöller pointed out that Marmoush doesn't need to wear a mask to scare the opposition.

"I think Omar can always be a spectre - for any opponent. He doesn't need to put on a mask," he said.

On why the striker didn't start, he explained:

"Omar said he was tired after the Union game and he also had a knock on his calf.

“I just had a gut feeling that I had to find the right moment to let him come off the bench.”
