Bayern München were keen on signing Borussia Dortmund captain Marco Reus years ago when he played for Borussia Mönchengladbach, according to Sport Bild.
Apparently, the Bayern bosses were well aware that Reus had an exit clause of €17.5 million in his contract.
In April 2011, they reportedly held a meeting with Volker Struth, head of Reus' agency 'SportsTotal'. Among other things, they asked him about Dortmund's reported interest in the offensive midfielder.
Later that year - in December - Bayern's head coach at the time, Jupp Heynckes, invited Reus into his house to convince him of a move to Munich.
However, according to Sport Bild, Philipp Lahm and Bastian Schweinsteiger, who were among the leading players at Bayern, weren't convinced by Reus at the time and argued against signing him.
Ultimately, Reus opted for a move back to his childhood club Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2012. Since then, he has made 235 appearances for the club with 115 goals and 72 assists to his name.
