The spoils were shared in a scrappy encounter between two teams fighting to avoid relegation, as Mainz and FC St. Pauli played out a 0-0 draw at the Mewa Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to Kicker after the game, Mainz midfielder Nadiem Amiri suggested that St. Pauli had more reason to be satisfied with the result than Mainz.

“I had the feeling that St. Pauli didn’t really want to win here,” said Amiri.

“But we’ll take the point.”

The 29-year-old felt that Mainz “definitely dominated the game,” but weren't clinical enough in front of goal.

“We were often in the penalty area, but a bit of luck was missing. We need to learn to be more effective. We don’t create many chances at the moment, but we have to take the ones we do have."

Even with Mainz heading into the winter break in last place, Amiri remained upbeat and insisted he felt no “fear or worries” about the relegation battle.

“I am confident that we’ll get away from the bottom,” he underlined.
