Bayern Munich assistant coach Aaron Danks has revealed that Vincent Kompany sent him a congratulatory WhatsApp message following Sunday's victory over SC Freiburg, as the Belgian continues his recovery in hospital.

With Kompany unavailable after collapsing on Friday, Danks took charge of the Bundesliga champions in Freiburg, guiding them to a 3-1 win despite a late scare.

Goals from Dayot Upamecano and Serge Gnabry gave Der Rekordmeister a comfortable advantage at the interval, before a Tom Bischof own goal brought the Black Forest club back into contention.

However, Michael Olise would go on to seal the match in stoppage time, seeing Bayern remain top ahead of next week's clash with Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking to DAZN after the final whistle, Danks revealed that Kompany had already been in touch to congratulate him on the result.

"I just opened my phone to a WhatsApp from Vince straight away saying ‘well done’, and he was happy", Danks explained.

"So I just replied saying, ‘ Brilliant, now rest,’ and sent him a kissing emoji.

“So hopefully he rests up.”

The 43-year-old was also delighted with his side's performance, after what has been a tough week for all associated with the club.

“Really pleased with the performance,” he said.

"We always knew it was going to be such a difficult place to come. They're a top team; they're in really good form.

"And even for the last ten minutes there, where they have that momentum and the crowd is up, and they're trying to chase an equaliser, it's good for us.

“We had to show a bit of resilience, a bit of character, and I thought we defended those moments quite well.”

After a big three points, Bayern are now preparing to face Magdeburg in the DFB-Pokal, before a huge clash with Borussia Dortmund under the lights on Saturday, where they could form a gap at the top of the standings.
