Serhou Guirassy helped Guinea to a narrow win over Kenya in the AFCON qualifiers. The Borussia Dortmund striker scored the only goal of the hard-fought encounter in Conakry around the half-hour mark.
The former French youth international can now return to his club since Guinea will not play until November’s international break. The 30-year-old played 90 minutes in the first two qualifying games against South Africa and Kenya.
Guinea are now in second place in Group D behind the invincible South Africa, while East African neighbours Kenya and Eritrea have one point each. The top two teams will automatically qualify for the 2027 AFCON, to be played in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Guirassy started the 2026/27 season with four goals and two assists for Borussia Dortmund. The Black and Yellows currently have a perfect Bundesliga record, and they have also won their first games in both cups.
Niko Kovac’s side will entertain Werder Bremen when Bundesliga returns on October 9th after a three-week break.
