Assan Ouedraogo made an immediate impact on his Germany debut in Monday’s 6-0 World Cup qualifying win over Slovakia, scoring less than two minutes after coming on in the second half.

At just 19 years and 192 days old, the RB Leipzig midfielder became the second-youngest player ever to score for Germany on his debut.

The record for the youngest debut goalscorer still belongs to Klaus Stürmer, who netted in his first game for Germany in October 1954 at the age of 19 years and 68 days.

“You always try to do what you can, and I managed to do that,” said a modest Ouedraogo after his dream debut.

“I certainly didn’t expect it to go this well.”

Originally called up to the German U21 team, Ouedraogo was promoted to the senior squad after Nadiem Amiri withdrew due to injury.
