Julian Brandt is searching for his next career step after it was announced last week that his contract with Borussia Dortmund will not be extended beyond the summer.

A potential link has now emerged with the club he left to join Dortmund in 2019: Bayer Leverkusen.

Speaking to DAZN on Saturday, Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro said he would support sporting managing director Simon Rolfes if he decided to pursue a move to bring Brandt back.

“You’ll have to ask Simon Rolfes about that. Simon Rolfes is responsible for squad planning; he’s our sporting managing director and the one who ultimately has to make the decision,” Carro said.

“I think Julian Brandt is sensational. If Simon wants him, I will definitely support it. But Simon has to set the direction.”

Whether Brandt himself would be open to a return to Leverkusen is unclear.

Sky Germany has previously reported that the attacking midfielder would prefer a move abroad rather than staying in Germany.
