Bayern Munich suffered their first and so far only defeat of the season in their latest Champions League outing, losing 3-1 to Arsenal on November 26.

Vincent Kompany's side have responded strongly to that defeat and have won three consecutive games since then, most recently thrashing Stuttgart 5-0 away from home despite making several changes.

They will now look to continue that run on Tuesday against Sporting in the Champions League, where they remain well-positioned with 12 points after winning their first four games.

“We've got an important game on Tuesday,” said Harry Kane after coming off the bench to score a hat-trick against Stuttgart.

"If we win it, it takes us very close to finishing in the top eight. That's our goal. We've got three games left until the winter break and want to win them all, starting on Tuesday evening. The atmosphere inside the Allianz Arena will be electric."

However, sitting eighth out of 36 teams in the Champions League, Sporting are a difficult side to beat and haven't lost since their 2-1 loss to Napoli on October 1. Most recently, Sporting drew 1-1 away against their bitter Lisbon rivals Benfica in a closely contested match.

It has been more than 16 years since Bayern and Sporting last met. In the 2008/09 Champions League, Bayern advanced comfortably from the round of 16, winning 5-0 and 7-1 for a 12-1 aggregate victory.

Team news and predicted lineups:

Sacha Boey missed Bayern's win over Stuttgart due to illness and is a doubt. Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala still fighting their way back from long-term injuries, while Luis Diaz is suspended after seeing red against PSG.

As for Sporting, Daniel Braganca and Zeno Debast (both nursing knee injuries) are out.
