Leonard Prescott is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a meniscus injury in his knee.

Bayern Munich confirmed the setback on Wednesday, also revealing that the 16-year-old goalkeeper has undergone successful surgery.

Prescott now faces a long rehabilitation period and is expected to be out for several months.

The youngster usually features for the club’s U19 side, but trained with the senior squad last season and came close to making his debut in a Champions League match against Atalanta due to an injury crisis in the goalkeeping department.

He has made nine appearances for Germany’s U17 national team.
