Bochum announce Butscher as interim coach

VfL Bochum have confirmed Heiko Butscher as their new head coach on an interim basis.

On Monday, VfL Bochum announced the decision to part ways with Thomas Letsch as head coach following a string of poor results.

The relegation-threatened Bundesliga club have now announced that academy sporting director Heiko Butscher will take over on an interim basis for the remainder of the season.

“We made a conscious decision with full conviction in favor of Heiko Butscher and thus opted for an internal solution. He knows VfL, he knows the situation at VfL and has proven that he can immediately reach a team in terms of content and emotion,” said VfL Bochum managing director for sport Patrick Fabian.

Butscher said he's “looking forward to working with the team" with the hope of avoiding the drop.

"It is clear to all of us that it can only be done together. As a team, as a unit, together with our fans," he said.

Bochum currently sit three points above Mainz in the relegation playoff spot.
