Bastian Schweinsteiger sounded the alarm after Germany suffered another setback on Sunday, losing 0-1 to Greece in Jürgen Klopp’s first home game as head coach.
Speaking as a pundit after the game, the Bayern Munich legend argued that Germany are no longer among the top national teams, but are instead just an “average” side.
Asked to respond to Schweinsteiger’s brutally honest verdict following Sunday’s defeat, Germany captain Joshua Kimmich backed his assessment.
“I can hardly disagree with that,” Kimmich was quoted as saying by Sky Germany.
“At the moment, we’re way off being a top team.”
Kimmich and Germany will be looking to finally pick up their first win under Jürgen Klopp when they face Serbia on Thursday.
