Goals from Lois Openda and Xavi Simons helped RB Leipzig to a 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund and lifted them to fifth, level on points with Eintracht Frankfurt.

It's Die Roten Bullen's first win in the Bundesliga in over a month, having drawn three and lost one of their last four league games.

The loss leaves Dortmund 11th, seven points behind SC Freiburg in the final Europa League place.

Die Borussen had 25 shots and nine on target, but they couldn't find any way past Peter Gulacsi.

Dortmund had the lion's share of the ball and the territory, but they couldn't make it pay off.

The opening ten minutes were cagey, but a salvo from Leipzig on a quarter of an hour paid off after Simons converted from a fast counter-attack.

Marcel Sabitzer was forced off with injury and Niko Kovac will hope he isn't without his main midfielder for too long.

Just after halftime, Openda doubled the lead for Leipzig with a well-placed volley after Simons floated a wonderful corner to the back post.

It was all Dortmund from then on, but they couldn't find a way past Gulacsi, who was on impressive form.

Following the international break, Leipzig travel to Borussia Mönchengladbach who are in form and chasing the European places.

Dortmund will play Mainz with Kovac searching for his third Bundesliga win since taking charge at the Westfalenstadion.
