With Fantasy Bundesliga returning this weekend, those looking to make a good start will be tinkering away with their team during the unlimited transfer period of the international break.
Below, you can find our draft team for the upcoming run of fixtures between Matchday 5 to 9 – costing an affordable 161.96M in total.
GOALKEEPERS:
Alexander Schwolow, Mainz (5.97M, 3%)
With first-choice Robin Zentner still recovering from a hand injury, Mainz's goal will be guarded by Schwolow for the time being. Given how expensive most assets are in the game, getting in the cheapest starting goalkeeper definitely makes sense for now.
Tom Wisbereit, FC Augsburg (1M, 29%)
Wisbereit is merely a placeholder for now and offers no value to the team other than saving budget. If you want two starting goalkeepers, I'd downgrade elsewhere and look at someone like Nicolas Kristof 7.8M, Elversberg) or Nahuel Noll (8.5M, Paderborn).
DEFENDERS:
Daniel Svensson, Dortmund (10.25M, 10%)
The Swedish wing-back is the cheapest route into a BVB defence which has kept three clean sheets in four games to date. Dortmund also tend to dominate games at home, further boosting his overall involvement. Injuries to teammates ought to guarantee his place too.
Josha Vagnoman, Stuttgart (7.22M, 26%)
Now that Nikolas Nartey has suffered another minor setback, Vagnoman should easily keep his place at right-back. Given his return of two goals and assist thus far, the 25-year-old deserves it. He's also a great pick with Stuttgart's run of favourable fixtures to come.
Jordy Makengo, Freiburg (5.63M, 34%)
Fantasy Bundesliga's fifth top-scoring defender so far, Makengo remains a firm part of Julian Schuster's team as they take on Schalke this Sunday. But be mindful that SC Freiburg face Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich on Matchday 6 and 7 respectively.
Jahmai Simpson-Pusey (4.84M, 2%)
Despite their mixed start to the season, Köln embark on a decent run of fixtures including two teams in the bottom three and one newly promoted side. The Englishman also averaged 151 points in his last two outings, making him an ideal set and forget bench option.
Koki Machida, Hoffenheim (3.47M, 0%)
Christian Ilzer's side have looked off the pace thus far, but Hoffenheim's fixtures are on the favourable side for the next five games. With Hajdari struggling, several sources are tipping budget pick Koki Machida to take his place now that he has returned from an ACL tear.
MIDFIELDERS:
Michael Olise, FC Bayern (37.75M, 31%)
Perhaps the most straightforward and obvious pick in the entire game. Olise picked up a whopping 784-point haul before the break and his form has only continued with France. The winger produced 4 goals and 2 assists in 4 games for Les Bleus over a couple of weeks.
Kostas Karetsas, Dortmund (15.88M, 9%)
The Golden Boy nominee is undoubtedly the creative spark in Dortmund at the minute, even if his minutes were curtailed by a health scare. Since then, the 18-year-old saw plenty of action with Greece to get him up to speed for Dortmund's busy October schedule.
Said El Mala, FC Köln (12.16M, 12%)
FC Köln's talisman perhaps hasn't shown what put him in the headlines last season, but it's only a matter of time until he's back amongst the goals. What better time to start than this weekend as Effzeh take on Rhinederby rivals Gladbach who sit bottom of the table.
Yuito Suzuki, Freiburg (10.09M, 34%)
Boasting the highest ownership of any asset in the game, Suzuki has begun the campaign as one of Freiburg's most in-form players. The Japanese midfielder has found the net four times thus far and also doesn't shy away from duels which only improves his ceiling.
Bambasé Conté, Hoffenheim (6.35M, 4%)
After spending last season out on loan, Conté offers a cut-price route into Hoffenheim's midfield. The 23-year-old should be buoyed from making his Germany debut in recent weeks and eager to impress by adding to his two Bundesliga assists to date.
FORWARDS:
Serhou Guirassy, Dortmund (19.29M, 23%)
The Guinea marksman looked to be on his way out of BVB in summer, but that narrative has changed in the space of four games. Guirassy, with two goals and two assists thus far, is central to Kovač's attack and could have had more if not for a few narrow offside calls.
Phillip Tietz, Mainz (12.13M, 19%)
Moving into his second season at Mainz, Tietz is just one goal off matching his Bundesliga tally of five last season. The 29-year-old is in a rich vein of form at the minute with ample attacking and duel involvement. Aside from FC Bayern in Matchday 9, their fixtures look great.
Derry Scherhant, Freiburg (9.93M, 4%)
Although not quite as involved as Matanovic in attack, Scherhant presents a nice alternative to the Croatian and produced 259 points against Frankfurt before the break. The 23-year-old also impressed for Germany, earning his first two caps under Jürgen Klopp.
Matchday 5 lineup (3-4-3):
Schwolow – Svensson, Vagnoman, Makengo – Olise, Karetsas, Suzuki, El Mala – Scherhant, Guirassy, Tietz
