At the start of the new year, Hamburger SV unexpectedly announced that Stefan Kuntz’s contract as board member for sport had been terminated with immediate effect for personal reasons.
On Sunday morning, Bild reported that the reason for the 63-year-old’s sudden departure was alleged sexual harassment of HSV employees.
Later that evening, Kuntz took to Instagram to vigorously deny the claims.
"I have received numerous inquiries regarding the recent reporting about me. First of all, I want to say that these allegations hit me hard. One thing is clear: I categorically reject these allegations," Kuntz stated.
“For the sake of my family and all those close to me, I have asked my lawyers to take action against these FALSE allegations and premature judgments.”
Explaining his departure when it was announced, Kuntz said:
“Sometimes, there are more important things than football. That is the case for me now. I do not wish to say anything more about this, and I ask that this wish be respected. I would like to thank HSV for a brilliant year and a half. I wish the team and everyone involved in the management all the best for the future.”
