Germany failed to pick up a second consecutive win under Jürgen Klopp on Sunday night as a resilient Greek side held them to a 0-0 draw at the Toumba Stadium in Thessaloniki.
Below are our player ratings for Jürgen Klopp's side on a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 being the highest possible score.
Germany player ratings against Greece:
GK: Jonas Urbig – 7/10
Produced an important parry to deny Georgios Masouras inside two minutes. Held onto anything else that was directed his way and distribution was borderline flawless.
RB: Philipp Treu – 6.5/10
All in all, a solid night at right-back for the Freiburg man who did the basics well. Perhaps could have done more with two good chances which could have turned a draw into victory.
CB: Waldemar Anton – 6.5/10
Similar to his fine form in the colour of Dortmund, the 30-year-old barely put a foot wrong barring one yellow-card foul for a late tackle on Kourbelis.
CB: Malick Thiaw – 7/10
The Newcastle United man won the vast majority of his duels and maintained a strong pass completion rate. Could have had a goal from a set-piece if not for getting his feet in a muddle.
LB: David Raum – 7/10
A couple of decent moments going forward and linked up well with Derry Scherhant on the left flank. Delivered a fee customary crosses that required a clinical finish on the end of them. A confidence-building performance.
CM: Aleksandar Pavlovic – 7/10
Similar to his link up with Bayern Munich teammate Bischof against Serbia, Pavlović conducted play nicely and worked space for others to exploit.
CM: Tom Bischof – 7/10 ('83)
Another solid display for the 21-year-old, showing composure and intelligence of a seasoned veteran. Totally at home in midfield with 83 minutes under his belt.
RM: Lennart Karl – 4.5/10 ('63)
The Bayern prodigy had a quiet night by his standards out on the right and struggled to make any inroads before being replaced by Said El Mala after the hour mark.
AM: Florian Wirtz – 6.5/10
Managed to orchestrate a lot of near give-and-go moves around the edge of the box to set up teammates. Didn't really manage to get himself into shooting positions himself. Presence faded as the game wore on.
LM: Derry Scherhant – 7.5/10 ('83)
By far and a way Germany's most lively starter, testing Greek goalkeeper Tzolakis a couple of times and giving his Saliakas nightmares with his elusive dribbling and footwork. Unlucky not to get a goal or assist.
ST: Jonathan Burkardt – 4/10 ('63)
It just wasn't to be for the Eintracht Frankfurt striker this evening. He accidentally blocked a goal-bound Wirtz effort, but was unlucky to see his goal ruled out for Bischof's prior handball.
Substitutes:
Said El Mala – 5/10 (63')
Struggled to get into the game after replacing Lennart Karl. No major involvement.
Nick Woltemade – 5/10 (63')
Hard to criticize as the service reduced when he entered the game. Better days to come.
Bambasé Conté – N/A (83')
Mika Baur – N/A (83')
Germany's Man of the Match: Derry Scherhant (7.5/10)
Putting in a tremendous shift on the left flank, Derry Scherhant was undoubtedly Germany's biggest threat on the night. Earning only his second senior cap, the 23-year-old dribbled with intention, produced 7 shots and did all he could to get the better of Tzolakis. A night to be proud of for the SC Freiburg talent despite leaving Thessaloniki with scant rewards.
