After disappointingly missing out on Germany's Euro 2024 squad, Leon Goretzka faces even more frustration heading into the new season.

According to Kicker, the 29-year-old midfielder doesn't play a major role in Bayern's plans for the 2024/25 campaign.

The former Schalke man was on the bench for 90 minutes as Bayern beat Tottenham 3-2 in a friendly on Saturday, with Joshua Kimmich, Joao Palhinha and Aleksandar Pavlovic all ahead of him in the pecking order for central midfield positions.

Konrad Laimer, who can play at right-back but is a natural central midfielder, doesn't appear to have a worse chance of playing time than Goretzka either, having played 45 minutes against Tottenham.

So far, it's been reported that Goretzka wants to stay and fight for his place, but it remains to be seen if that will be the case, as his chances of playing regular football look bleaker by the day.

He joined Bayern from Schalke in 2018 and is under contract until 2026.
