The Bayern Munich striker admitted he had never experienced such pressure before, despite the numerous high-profile matches he has played throughout his career, as he reflected on the moment his name was announced as the winner.
“I went through every possible emotion. I was really nervous. I had never felt that kind of pressure before, even after all the football matches I’ve played, because this time, the outcome wasn’t really in my hands,” Kane explained in an interview with Téléfoot.
“When I walked onto the stage, I felt an incredible sense of relief. My heart rate was really high. I was almost frozen when I heard my name. Everything around me just stopped, like in a movie. It was a very nice feeling.”
Kane also discussed the message he shared following his triumph, writing: ‘Work hard in silence. Let success be your noise.’
The England captain revealed that the quote has resonated with him for several years, reflecting the mentality that has helped him reach the highest level of the game.
“It’s something I’ve come across many years ago, when I was younger. I think it’s just been something that suits me as a person,” he said.
The 33-year-old highlighted the importance of the work that supporters rarely get to see, pointing towards additional treatment, ice baths and finishing sessions after training as examples of the dedication that has helped him continually improve.
“It’s almost what I enjoy the most sometimes. When I look back through my journey, when things looked not so good, I think it’s what makes the journey so special,” Kane added.
Having initially admitted that winning football’s most prestigious individual award was beyond his expectations, Kane explained how his ambitions gradually developed as his career progressed.
“I simply wanted to become a good footballer, and then I gradually improved over time. As my career progressed, I became more interested in the Ballon d’Or. I started thinking, ‘Why not?’ But winning this award is beyond anything I could have imagined.”
Kane also credited his move to Munich with helping him reach another level, insisting that he is currently playing the best football of his career.
“Since arriving in Munich, I’ve taken another step forward. Today, I’m in the best form of my life. I hope to give my very best until the end,” he concluded.
With his individual achievements now matching his outstanding performances on the pitch, Kane’s comments underline the mentality and dedication that have helped him reach the pinnacle of world football.
