Leading 2-0 in the second half, VfB Stuttgart appeared to be cruising to victory against Holstein Kiel when Jeff Chabot was shown a second yellow card after a confrontation with Nicolai Remberg.
After the dismissal, Stuttgart allowed Kiel to come back into the game and Armin Gigovic pulled one back for the visitors, who were also reduced to 10 men late on when Jann-Fiete Arp was sent off.
Ultimately, Stuttgart held on for the win, but as relieved as he must have been about that, head coach Sebastian Hoeness was not pleased with Chabot after the match.
“We have to be self-critical about this, Jeff has to be self-critical. He knows that. That shouldn't happen to him or to us again, that we let the opponent back into the game carelessly,” Hoeness told Sky Germany after the game.
Angelo Stiller also noticed that the dismissal had a negative effect on the game from Stuttgart's point of view.
“We the game slip out of our hands with the red card, that shouldn't have happened,” the Stuttgart midfielder said.
