Hoffenheim plan to dump Grillitsch, Sky reports

Sky Germany reports that newly installed TSG 1899 Hoffenheim trainer Christian Ilzer has no use for club veteran Florian Grillitsch.

The new TSG 1899 Hoffenheim coaching regime of Christian Ilzer may serve as a chance for a fresh start for players such as Adam Hlozek and Jacob Bruun Larsen. When it comes to veteran Austrian midfielder/central defender Florian Grillitsch, however, Sky Germany claims that Ilzer has already informed one player that he may start looking for a new club.

The 29-year-old returned to Sinsheim in the summer of 2023 after an ill-fated year spent with Ajax. Previous TSG trainer Pellegrino Matarazzo deployed Grillitsch in 30 league fixtures last year and used him 14 times across all competitions this year. Eight starts in ten league fixtures demonstrated Matarazzo's respect for the ÖFB international who represented Hoffenheim a total of 196 times over six plus seasons.

For whatever reason, Ilzer doesn't appear to have Grillitsch in his plans. A transfer fee for the 49-times-capped international would be due should he leave in the January transfer window. Grillitsch's current contract in Kraichgau runs through 2026. He maintains an estimated market worth of €6.5 million in the latest transfermarkt update. At his peak, Grillitsch was appraised as a €25 million player.
