How long will Guirassy's injury keep him out?

Despite Serhou Guirassy's injury, Borussia Dortmund decided to go ahead and sign him from VfB Stuttgart. The question now is: When will Guirassy return from injury?

Borussia Dortmund completed the signing of Serhou Guirassy from VfB Stuttgart on Thursday, despite the striker being sidelined by a knee injury.

The knee injury was discovered during Guirassy's medical and Dortmund had further tests carried out by a specialist before finally going ahead with the deal.

"It was important for us to get the most accurate professional assessment of Serhou's injury in the interests of BVB and the player," said Borussia Dortmund managing director for sport Lars Ricken.

“Thoroughness clearly took precedence over speed. All the facts are now on the table and we are convinced that we have made the right decision with this transfer.”

According to Bild, Guirassy is not expected to be fully fit before the first international break of the 2024/25 season.

That would mean he would miss games against Phönix Lübeck (DFB-Pokal, 17 August), Eintracht Frankfurt (Bundesliga, 24 August) and Werder Bremen (Bundesliga, 31 August), with his Dortmund debut likely to come against Heidenheim on 13 September.

Guirassy will not be travelling with the rest of the squad to Bangkok for the first leg of their Asian tour, which begins on Friday.

Instead, he will be in his hometown of Paris or Dortmund, where he will be following an individual rehabilitation program.
