Jonathan Tah shares biggest lesson learned from Alonso and Kompany

As Jonathan Tah embarks on his second season at FC Bayern, the German international discussed several matters in an interview with the Bundesliga. 

The center-back reiterates that he made the right decision when he left Bayer Leverkusen for FC Bayern Munich.

“It feels like I made the right decision to come here (Bayern), and the first season has been amazing,” Tah starts his evaluation of a debut season at Allianz Arena. “The way people accepted me not only as a player, but also as a person was special to me.

“I want to keep that feeling this season and keep working on different stuff. There's always something you can do better. But, yes, that's the main focus.”

With his last coach at Bayer Leverkusen Xabi Alonso and current FC Bayern boss Vincent Kompany, the 30-year-old has the opportunity to take lessons from two great football minds.

“Yes, for sure. I mean, they had such big careers as players,” Tah said when he was asked if he felt blessed to work with them. “It's really nice to work with them because they really understand how a locker room and a squad work. They've both been great leaders when they were players, as well. Great personalities and great coaches.”

“I mean, if you go deep into it, we could sit here for two hours, and I could explain to you exactly what I've learnt,” Tah said before sharing his insight about the biggest trait he learnt from the two young coaches.

“I think the most important is the approach they have to a team, because you can have all of the best tactics. But if you don't really have the connection to the team, and if the team doesn't really feel what you want to do, then it's not going to work even if the tactic sounds good.

“I think both of them are capable of catching the team emotionally so that everybody listens and everybody follows what they want from you.”
