Karl and Karetsas among five Bundesliga talents in Golden Boy race

Lennart Karl and Konstantinos Karetsas are two of five Bundesliga gems who are in contention to win the Golden Boy accolade.

An impressive tally of five talents competing in the Bundesliga are among the nominees for this year's Golden Boy award. 

Lennart Karl (19) of Bayern Munich is joined by Borussia Dortmund duo Konstantinos Karetsas (18) and Joane Gadou (19) on the shortlist.

Two other highly-rated prodigies in 1.FC Köln's Said El Mala (20) and Finn Jeltsch (20) of VfB Stuttgart round off the Bundesliga candidates.

Italian newspaper Tuttosport has been awarding the title of best under-21 player in Europe annually since 2003.

Now, the 25 finalists for this year's edition have been determined, of which five come from a handful of Germany's topflight clubs.

This year's favorite is Spanish World Cup winner Pau Cubarsí (19, FC Barcelona). Last year, Desiré Doué of PSG (21) took home the trophy.
