LIVEBLOG: Germany vs. Greece - 2026/27 UEFA Nations League

Good evening everyone, and welcome to liveblog coverage of the second match of the Germany's 2026/27 UEFA Nations League campaign, as Jürgen Klopp's DFB-Team play host to Ivan Jovanović's Greece at WWK Arena in Augsburg. Updates to come here on the Bulinews website over the next 2 hours.

Germany opened their Nations League campaign with a 1-1 draw in Amsterdam against the Netherlands. Felix Nmecha opened the scoring in the thirty-second minute, but Germany were denied of all three points through an acrobatic Cody Gakpo equaliser in the second minute of second half stoppage time.

As for Greece, they currently lead the group, having taken all three points in dramatic fashion against the Serbia in Belgrade this past Thursday. Andrija Živković scored the opening goal for the Serbs in the fourth minute, but Serbia-born coach Ivan Jovanović was able to turn things around for the Ethniki as time went on - with Christos Tzolis and substitute Anastasios Douvikas scoring in the last 20 minutes.

The two sides have made their way onto the ground. The Greek national anthem, Ὕμνος εἰς τὴν Ἐλευθερίαν", will play over the speakers first - followed by "Deutschlandlied". After that, the coin toss and kickoff at WWK Arena.

1': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Younes Ebnoutalib with the first pass back and away we go! Germany, in their famous white home uniforms, will go left to right in the opening term; Greece, in blue, will go right to left when they get their attacking chances.

3': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Andrews Tetteh catches the back of Joshua Kimmich's right leg with a very high standing tackle, giving Germany a free kick in the centre of the Greek half. The ball eventually lands at the feet of senior debutant Bambasé Conté, but the Hoffenheim attacking midfielder just misses the bottom-right corner from the edge of the box.

6': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Nathaniel Brown makes his way into the left side of the box. Spotting Kimmich making a run into the centre of the area, he passes back - but his FC Bayern München teammate cannot control the shot with his right boot well enough and he sails it well wide. This is followed by a chance from Konstantinos Karetsas on a counterattack that goes just over the top-left corner.

10': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Both sides have been able to get into the other's penalty area, but neither has generated a decent opportunity from it. Greece nearly had an opportunity in the last minute, with a lob into the left side of the box to Christos Tzolis - however, the Arsenal FC midfielder waited too long to move the ball forward and missed his opportunity.

12': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Tzolis makes his way into the left side of the box again, but this time, Josha Vagnoman steps in and makes a fine standing tackle to clear the ball. From the ensuing Greek throw, Panagiotis Retsos weaves his way into the area, but his chance is quickly cut off by Vagnoman and Tah.

14': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Earlier today, the Netherlands emerged 2-1 victors in Serbia. Mexx Meerdink, who had quite a decent performance against the Germans in Amsterdam this past Thursday, scored both goals for the Oranje; Luka Jović, who plays his club football in Greece with AEK, got the lone marker for the hosts. With that, the current live standings are as follows: Netherlands (4), Greece (4), Germany (2), Serbia (0).

16': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Yann Bisseck pushes Tetteh off his mark while the latter maintained possession on the right side of the German half. Yellow card to the former and a free kick for Greece from approximately 25 metres out, managing the counterattack brilliantly after a Kimmich free kick from a similar area was smothered by a charging Konstantinos Tzolakis.

18': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Instead of going direct on the set piece, Tzolis attempts to lob the ball into the centre of the box - which is unsuccessful, leading to a very quick headed clearance by Tah.

20': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Nmecha plays the ball to his left to Karim Adeyemi at the edge of the box, but the latter puts a bit too much power on the shot and skies the ball over the bar. English official Chris Kavanaugh has called Georgios Vagiannidis back after the play ended, and appears to have shown him a yellow card for a foul on Adeyemi - having grabbed and held onto his uniform in the buildup.

22': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Konstantinos Karetsas, who plays his club football in Germany with Borussia Dortmund, is the second Greek name to go into the book in the last two minutes. He protests the call for a harsh slide tackle, but Kavanaugh will hear none of it and the hosts will move the ball from the left side of the ground.

24': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Great chance from Ebnoutalib on the right side of the Greek penalty area; gets on the end of a cross from Brown and tries for an acrobatic attempt towards the top-right corner, but whistles it across the face of goal and wide to the left for a goal kick to the visitors. Tzolakis will punt it upfield.

27': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Adeyemi starts a run into open space on the left side of the Greek half. He outpaces Konstantinos Tsimikas before lobbing the ball above a charging Tzolakis; unfortunately for the FC Barcelona winger, the shot was slightly too powerful and goes over the bar.

29': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Jürgen Klopp's German side look much more involved in the last few minutes, with a Gegenpressing-focused defensive strategy - continuously involved in contests for possession and ready to win the ball back within seconds. The left flank also appears to be the better side to attack from, and Klopp has clearly taken note of that.

31': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Adeyemi evades a sliding Konstantinos Mavropanos with a brilliant fake shot, and then follows with a curling shot towards the top-right corner. Fortunately for the visitors, Tzolakis makes an even better save, leaping to deny him with both hands.

33': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

The Adeyemi chance was the first shot on target in what has otherwise been a relatively quiet match this evening (shots 6-3). Despite only holding 23 % possession, Greece will be pleased with their performance if it continues like this - as it is exactly the kind of style of play they need to potentially scrape by with all three points.

36': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Conté is wrestled off the ball by Vagiannidis in a one-on-one contest on the right side of the box - but taps it just enough that it lands at the feet of Ebnoutalib close to the goal area. Mavropanos steps in and makes a perfectly-timed sliding tackle, a sure goal-denying block to force a corner for the hosts.

38': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Adeyemi and Nmecha connect a few short passes on the left side of the Greek third. The former attempts to find Kimmich in the centre of the box, but a standing tackle from Mavropanos knocks it away and the DFB-Team will have to regroup from here.

42': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Vagnoman, Nmecha, and Adeyemi connect a series of passes on the right side of the Greek third - but their attacking play comes to a grinding halt after Pavlidis manages a standing tackle. Conté then tackles him without winning possession back, and the advantage is given to Greece.

45+1': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Just one minute of time will be added to the first half in Augsburg.

An attacking first half from the DFB-Team for the most part, but their one shot on target, courtesy of Karim Adeyemi, was blocked by Konstantinos Tzolakis and that was the only notable play. Goalless at the break in Augsburg.

Shots in the opening term finished 7-4 to Germany, 4-0 on target with 79 % possession. Pass accuracy finished 93 % on 353 completions for Germany, 68 % on 67 for Greece. Touches in the opposing penalty area went 16-5 to Germany in the half.

Elsewhere in Nations League action:

In League A, Group 2, the Netherlands defeated Serbia 2-1.

In League A, Group 4, Denmark defeated Wales 2-0 earlier this evening, and at the moment, Portugal are leading Norway 1-0 with Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench.

In League B, Group 3, Austria defeated Kosovo 3-1 and the Republic of Ireland have started strong against Israel, 3-0 up at the break.

League D, Group 1 saw Gibraltar and Andorra play to a scoreless draw, and League D, Group 2 saw Lithuania and Azerbaijan split the points, 1-1.

Ivan Jovanović has made his first change of the match at this point, taking Sporting CP's Giorgios Vagiannidis off and replacing him with Olympiakos' Manolis Saliakas at RB. Vagiannidis was on a caution, and Greece were unwilling to take the risk of a sending off for another potential risky slide tackle.

This is just the fifth national team appearance for Saliakas, who has a history in Germany as he played with St. Pauli between 2023 and their relegation from Bundesliga in 2026.

46': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Vangelis Pavlidis with the opening kick and the second half is underway. Greece, in blue, will now go right to left; Germany, in white, left to right when they get their chances.

48': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Adeyemi controls the ball on the right side of the Greek third. He passes the ball to his left to Conté, who leaves a falling Christos Zafeiris in the dust before powering a shot towards the bottom-right corner - quickly smothered by the gloves of Tzolakis.

51': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Kimmich knocks the ball short to Conté at the edge of the box, who gets knocked to the ground by Zafeiris. Germany will get probably their best chance yet, a free kick just outside the box which one of Brown or Kimmich will take.

53': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Nothing comes of the free kick, but Germany regroup and go for a surprise attempt in the seconds that followed. It started with a deep run into the left side of the box from Adeyemi - who tapped the ball to Nmecha for a right-footed shot that ultimately went just wide of the bottom-left corner.

55': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Contest for possession on the left side of the Greek half, Adeyemi tries to lunge in for the ball but a sliding tackle from Retsos catches him completely off-guard and he slides to the ground. Yellow card coming to the Olympiakos centre-back.

57': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Christos Zafeiris and Andrews Tetteh are done for the evening, as Ivan Jovanović makes a pair of changes to try and revive Greece's attacking play in this second half. Dimitrios Kourbelis, who plays with Asteras Tripolis at the club level, and Fotis Ioannidis, who plays his club football in Portugal with Sporting CP, will enter at LCM and ST.

61': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

It looks like Jonathan Burkardt is receiving instructions from the coaching staff and will be coming into the match shortly, presumably in place of Ebnoutalib but not confirmed just yet.

63': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Ebnoutalib stays in. Kevin Schade and Bambasé Conté are the players that will be exiting the match, with Burkardt entering at LAM and Florian Wirtz at CAM in a double change for Jürgen Klopp's Germany.

66': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Kourbelis catches Kimmich at the best possible time, winning possession with a clean sliding tackle while the latter goes to ground. He finds open space on his right and threads the ball to Ioannidis, who makes his way into the right side of the box before sending the ball just to the left of Alexander Nübel but wide. Easily Greece's best chance of the day, and it is the two substitutes that recently entered that could have combined to make an instant impact.

68': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

The travelling crowd has made a lot of noise tonight. Every time Germany wins the ball and maintains possession in their own half, or enter the Greek penalty area, the whistles rain down in masses. It is just a taste of the atmosphere that Jürgen Klopp's side will be welcomed to in Thessaloniki next week, a great opportunity to prepare for it.

70': GERMANY 0-0 GREECE

Pavlidis plays the ball to Tzolis to his right; the latter attempts to knock the ball towards the goalmouth, but nobody is there and it rolls across the face of goal without being touched by Nübel. Tah hoofs it away and Germany have an opportunity to regroup on the defensive.

73': GERMANY 0-1 GREECE

GREECE GOAL: D. Kourbelis (assist: C. Tzolis)

Greece, with their new generation of breakout stars, are on the verge of what would be a massive upset. Tzolis passes the ball within the box to Kourbelis, who knocks the ball off the right leg of a sliding Kimmich and past Nübel - who completely misjudges the deflection.

76': GERMANY 0-1 GREECE

Bisseck rises above Saliakas to meet a cross from Brown with a towering header, but it goes just wide of the bottom-right corner. This is followed by Jürgen Klopp's third change for Germany, with Serge Gnabry taking the place of Karim Adeyemi at RAM.

78': GERMANY 0-1 GREECE

Gnabry makes his way into the right side of the box and goes for goal, but is denied by the chest of Tzolakis. Four shots on target in the second half for Germany, compared to just one - the currently deciding one - for Greece.

80': GERMANY 0-1 GREECE

Christos Tzolis is replaced by Neom SC's Giorgos Masouras at LM within Ivan Jovanović's Greek 4-4-2. Four changes complete for the visitors, one remaining.

Anton Stach and Hennes Behrens will be entering in the final two German changes momentarily.

83': GERMANY 0-1 GREECE

Two defensive-minded changes in the final ten minutes, as Nathaniel Brown and Felix Nmecha are done for the evening - replaced at LB and CDM by Hennes Behrens and Anton Stach. Jürgen Klopp has now used all five changes for Germany, as the hosts press for a late equaliser.

86': GERMANY 0-1 GREECE

Masouras clears a long ball into the right side of the box from Behrens. Kimmich delivers the ensuing corner far-post, met by an acrobatic kick from Bisseck. Tzolakis holds the ball between his legs before the whistle goes, likely because the ball was just over the line at the moment of the Bisseck attempt.

88': GERMANY 0-1 GREECE

Ioannidis wraps his boot around the right leg of Tah, but his shot goes just wide of the top-left corner. This is followed by an attempt from Wirtz that appears to go off the body of Kourbelis before going out of play - no corner given, though.

89': GERMANY 0-1 GREECE

Vangelis Pavlidis is replaced at ST by 26-year-old PAOK striker Giannis Michailidis. This is the fourth appearance in an Ethniki uniform for Michailidis, who was part of the Team of the Season at the club level in the 2024/25 Super League Greece campaign.

90+1': GERMANY 0-1 GREECE

Four minutes will be added to the 90.

Current live table: Greece (6), Netherlands (4), Germany (1), Serbia (0). A late equaliser drops Greece to four points and brings Germany up to two - no other option but to go for that now, likely with long balls to make it happen.

This upcoming Greek generation might be the real deal.

An unbelievable result against one of the best national teams in the world and one of the best coaches in the world. Jürgen Klopp's Germany, stunned by Ivan Jovanović's Greece - who go two-for-two in their UEFA Nations League group with a 1-0 result in Augsburg.

Shots in the second half finished 9-4 to Germany, 4-1 on target with 72 % possession. The hosts managed a pass accuracy of 90 % on 314 completions, compared to 74 % on just 99 for the visitors. The DFB-Team managed 14 touches in the opposing penalty area, compared to 6 from the Ethniki.

FT: GERMANY 0-1 GREECE

Overall, Germany outshot Greece 16-8, 5-1 on target with 76 % possession. Pass accuracy finished 91 % on 667 completions for Germany, 72 % on 166 for Greece. The hosts made 30 touches in the visitors' penalty area, compared to 11 from the visitors.

A match that Ivan Jovanović's Greece won completely against the run of play, as they intended from the very start with their gradual attacking strategy.

FT: GERMANY 0-1 GREECE

Serbia is next in a match between the two winless teams in this tournament. Kickoff at Allianz Arena in München is set for Thursday, 20.45 (CET). Greece will host the Netherlands at the exact same time, with that match to be played at Toumba Stadium in Thessaloniki.

After that, these two teams play each other in Thessaloniki, with kickoff at 20.45 (CET) next Sunday.
